  • DMCC's Ahmed Bin Sulayem donates AED 300,000 to UAE Water Aid campaign

In support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai’s most recent philanthropic initiative, UAE Water Aid (UAE Suqia), which aims to provide an excess of five million people across the world with clean drinking water, DMCC’s Executive Chairman, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, has made a personal donation of AED 300,000 to the UAE Red Crescent, the official entity in charge of implementing this initiative.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said:

“It is an honour to take part in His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai’s latest humanitarian drive. His Highness always leads the way in showing the importance of giving to those whom are less fortunate, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

“Water is one of life’s most important commodities, yet most of us tend to take it for granted. By supporting game-changing approaches like the ‘Suqia’ campaign, UAE residents and companies can drive the critical innovation and support needed to help counter the water crisis. This initiative not only allows us to provide a helping hand to others, but it also helps us reflect on how blessed we are and think more actively about conserving water.”

[Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarouni, head of the Emirates Red Crescent’s Dubai branch, said:
“We are delighted to see a young Emirati leader be inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and donate generously from his own personal wealth. The Emirates Red Crescent Dubai, through the UAE Suqia campaign, believes that every person deserves a healthy life and one of the key elements to having this is access to safe drinking water and better sanitation facilities, giving them improved health and a life of dignity.

“This is a life-changing initiative that provides those who are able to donate time and resources with an excellent way to help those in need, and we look forward to inspiring them to join this campaign.”

Bin Sulayem’s donation came shortly after DMCC, the Government of Dubai Authority with a mandate to enhance Dubai’s position as a global gateway for commodity trade and enterprise, participated in the campaign with a donation of AED 2 million. The UAE-wide campaign has been an overall resounding success so far, with in excess of AED 80 million raised (as of 03.07.14)
