Inspired by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s act of solidarity

DMCC’s Executive Chairman, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, has made a personal donation of AED 300,000 to Al Jalila Foundation, a global philanthropic healthcare organisation, to support cancer research. According to the UAE Ministry of Health, cancer is the third highest cause of mortality in the country.

The donation was accompanied by the symbolic act of the DMCC Executive Chairman shaving head and beard, as inspired by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, who undertook a similar deed earlier this week in a demonstration of solidarity towards cancer patients during a visit to the Tawam Hospital in Al Ain.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem said:

“Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s selfless and compassionate gesture in support of cancer patients has prompted me to get involved and take action against a disease that is responsible for around 11 percent of all deaths in the UAE. We all have a responsibility to come together in an initiative to support cancer care in Dubai, I am personally committed to this important cause and the Al Jalila Foundation and will continue these donations for the next five years. I want to encourage everyone to help in any way they can, whether through volunteering their time, raising awareness or financial donations.”

Cancer is one of the five focus areas selected by Al Jalila Foundation as a priority for medical research in the region. The not-for-profit organisation was established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to uplift the health of the UAE population by supporting medical treatment, education and research.
