- Over 500 members of the Chinese community attend DMCC’s event to celebrate Chinese New Year
- DMCC launches a specialised Chinese service centre at Almas Tower in conjunction with celebrations
- DMCC is home to over 1,300 Chinese employees and nearly 500 Chinese companies
DMCC – the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority on commodities trade and enterprise – hosted large celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year at the Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) Park in Dubai (UAE).
On 24 January, the festivities kicked off with traditional Chinese lion and dragon dances, roaming entertainment, face painting and traditional drum shows which showcase the rich history and culture from mainland China. The event welcomed more than 500 members of the growing JLT, and Dubai-based Chinese community.
Supporting Chinese companies to establish a foothold in the UAE market, DMCC launched last week, with the attendance of Mr. Wu YI, Economic & Commercial Counselor, Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai, a specialised Chinese service centre in Almas Tower, JLT. The Centre aims to provide a unique customer experience and facilitate the process for Chinese companies looking to set up their businesses in UAE.
“China is UAE’s leading trade partner and DMCC has successfully created a valuable gateway to Asia as we continue to see a surge of interest from Chinese companies choosing to set up their business in Dubai. We are delighted to celebrate this occasion alongside our burgeoning Chinese community and we extend our warmest wishes to all employees, residents and visitors on the Chinese New Year of the Rat,” said Ahmad Hamza, Executive Director - Free Zone, DMCC.
“Looking ahead, DMCC will continue to play its role in growing the UAE-based Chinese business community and boosting cooperation between the two countries – strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading global trade hub,” he added.
The event underscores DMCC’s continuous positive contributions to facilitating the growth of UAE’s Chinese community and strengthening the UAE-China relationship through trade over the years. Today, DMCC is home to over 1,300 Chinese residents and 449 Chinese companies, equating to nearly 10% of all Chinese businesses registered in the UAE.
China remains one of the UAE’s largest trading partners, with trade between the two countries expected to reach up to AED 257 billion this year. China has also confirmed its participation in Expo 2020 investing over AED 367 million in its pavilion.
