DMCC welcomes Synergy University to Dubai

First university to open in the DMCC Free Zone

Synergy University (‘Synergy’), the largest private university in Russia with over 35,000 students across the world, today officially launched its first campus in the Middle East at the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (‘DMCC’) Free Zone in JLT. The first university to join DMCC, Synergy has chosen the Free Zone for its diverse international business community of over 7,400 companies, world-class infrastructure and student-friendly environment.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said:

“Synergy University choosing to open its first campus in the Middle East in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers demonstrates the Emirate’s position as a prime destination for business, tourism and education. As the largest and fastest growing free zone in the UAE with over 7,400 businesses and 75,000 people working and living here, the DMCC Free Zone offers the ideal environment and infrastructure to learn and develop new skills. We look forward to the opportunities Synergy’s first fully-fledged international campus will bring to Dubai.”

A number of high-profile individuals attended the opening event in the DMCC Free Zone, which included a tour of Almas Tower, the tallest commercial tower in the Middle East. The Russian delegation included: Dr Veniamin Kaganov, Vice Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation; Larisa Efremova, Deputy Director of Department of General Education, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation; Mikhail Degtyarev, State Duma Member and Moscow Mayoral Candidate, Vice Chairman of State Duma Committee on Science and Scientific Innovations; Robert Shlegel, State Duma Member; and Yan Yanovsky, Founder of Bioenko and First Nation Societe Bancaire, member of International Committee of World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Russia. Members of DMCC and Synergy University’s leadership were also in attendance.

Professor Yury Rubin, Rector, Synergy University, said:

“Back in 2010, the international advisory board of Synergy University decided to commence the international expansion. We are very delighted to be in Dubai, the region’s undisputed higher education hub, and contribute positively to the current international programmes offering. We have some unique programmes that will surely add to the options currently available for the over 45,000 students that chose to complete their higher education here.”

Synergy University has selected Bachelors and Masters programmes for its Dubai campus that cater to local demand and range from hotel management and hospitality to global economy and a women’s-only MBA - the first of its kind in the region. The university is also cooperating with local businesses to ensure that students are able to gain relevant work experience during their time in Dubai.

Zaid Maleh, Chief Executive Officer, DACH ADVISORY & Vice Chancellor International, at Synergy University, added:

“Dubai seemed a natural choice for us when considering where to locate our second campus as it is a growing business, financial, cultural and economic hub that attracts a very diverse set of people which make for a unique student body. The DMCC Free Zone fulfilled all our requirements as it boasts the necessary infrastructure, entertainment alternatives, community engagement opportunities and business framework required for an establishment like Synergy. We look forward to furthering our relationship with Dubai and DMCC; this is just the beginning.”
