In support of the Year of Zayed and Zayed Humanitarian Day on Ramadan 19, DMCC’s Executive Chairman, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, made a personal donation of AED 500,000 to Dubai Cares, a UAE-based global philanthropic organisation working to improve children and young people's access to quality education in developing countries. Mr. Bin Sulayem’s donation supports Dubai Cares’ Post-Earthquake Recovery Efforts for Education in Nepal.
“I am proud and extremely happy to support Dubai Cares during the holy Month of Ramadan and contribute to the organisation's vital philanthropic efforts by making a difference and creating a positive impact on the future of thousands of underprivileged children who are denied a basic human right, access to quality education.” said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC.
Bin Sulayem added: “Investment in people’s knowledge and skills was always a priority for His Highness, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. He believed that education was an essential component in transforming the social and economic fabric of any society and enhancing the quality of life for all its people. Now more than ever, we need to recognise the importance of education and unite to create a more sustainable future for the generations to come.”
Abdulla Ahmed Alshehhi, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Cares, said: “We are grateful to Ahmed Bin Sulayem, whose generous contribution will allow us to provide more underprivileged children and young people with access to quality education. Bin Sulayem has been a long-standing supporter of Dubai Cares through his own personal contribution as well as through his involvement and support of a number of key fund-raising events.”
Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, plays a key role in helping achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning by 2030. Dubai Cares’ Education in Emergencies programmes offer support to children affected by conflict and natural disasters in countries like Lebanon, Iraq and Nepal, thus enabling them to continue their education.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem is a strong supporter of numerous charitable and philanthropic organisations across the UAE including Al Jalilah Foundation, Red Crescent Society, UAE Water Aid, as well as Dubai Cares. Under Ahmed Bin Sulayem’s leadership, DMCC was the first Free Zone to commit to the UN’s Global Compact initiative in 2017. As part of this commitment, DMCC will help accomplish many of the sustainable development goals, including ensuring inclusive and quality education for all (Goal 4), as well as building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialisation, and fostering innovation (Goal 9), and revitalising the global partnership for sustainable development (Goal 17).
